A foreigner's opinion of Barack Obama.

It is becoming apparant to the rest of the world that the people of the U.S.A are becoming more and more dis-satisfied with their leader President Barack Obama.
As an English person living in the U.K, I thought our American friends might be interested in a foreigner's perspective of how we see their president.
The previous president of the U.S was a person of whom we in the U.K had little respect , not only was he a person of small intellect and non existant eloquence, he was considered a bigot and a racist.
Anyone who was not a white, middle class, sexually straight ,Christian, was deemed unworthy, or that is the impression he gave us.
He teamed up with our P.M Tony Blair, who was considered to be a charismatic and enthusiastic go-getter with a politically correct attitude.
Bush had none of these attributes, so by 'toadying up' to the likes of Blair, he gained some sort of misguided respect, like saying to the world,' if a man like Blair respects my opinions, maybe everyone else will too'.
Between them they cooked up an idea to get at the ' Ayrabs' as Bush liked to call them, and of course get inside a country full of the 'old black gold', so important to the U.S and U.K.
Once our countries became at war with Iraq, not only was Bush's reputation of being considered an eejit of the highest order still apparant, he also became a figure of hate, hatred for starting the war, and hatred for involving us ( The Brits ) .
We also blamed Blair too, it was not all one-sided.
Subsequently any one that was to supercede him in power, was instantly revered.
We did'nt care who won the election in your country, just as long as Bush got ousted.Any one that followed that ' nutter ' was put on a pedestal, as we are sure the people of the U.S did too.
Along came Obama, not just the overthrower of the Bush regime, but the first black President of your country too, he was a man who would go down in the history books.
We were proud of America for electing him their head of state, it showed the world that the U.S was forward thinking and over the racial problems that it had been known to have for so long.
Obviously as Brits, we do not know too much about your home and internal affairs, we only know what Obama has acheived on an international footing, but what we have noticed about him is that he is a man of intellect, a man of learning, and someone interested in human rights and unjust causes.
He is one to be respected, even if he does'nt always get things right. He is afterall a human being, and we think that is what the U.S forgets, he is just a man, not a saint or a god that can work miracles.
Bush caused your country so many problems, so many negative feelings towards your people and country, that Obama can not undo all Bush's wrongs overnight.
As a nation, we like Obama, he is a worthy candidate for the head of the world's largest superpower, and he has given your country back, the political respect it lost, at the hands of George 'Dubya ' Bush.

We went from an "eejit", as you put it, to a narcicist. I'd rather have the "eejit". At least that way we end up with a political stalemate. We may have gained respect across the ocean, but it is at the cost of liberty on so many fronts. Bailouts and cap and trade and healthcare bills will, most definately, have major strings attatched.
One thing you've just said which is completely untrue: we don't believe Tony Blair to be a 'charismatic and enthusiastic go-getter with a politically correct attitude' - He sent our troops into Afghanistan because he was following Bush and he dropped the UK into billions of debt. To me, he's on level with Thatcher.
Wow, I am shocked that so many believe what they hear and do not research for truth. Obama is trying to destroy our country from within. He is dangerous and crazy and some think he is a thinker and his education paid off for him. He scares me for the future of my children and grandchildren. I do not think our country will survive another term. He is selling our country out from under our noses. Wake up people before it is too late. Never does being in debt get fixed by making more debt. Such a shame that people fall for his lies. He is to be feared and stripped of all power.

As your (un)holy 13th follower, I must admit a certain infernal love for you.
As a Native Texan, I have neither appreciated, nor accepted Bush 41 or 43's claim of being a Texan (it's a long tale, best explained by encyclopedias or historical texts). I hated the later's actions when he was simply involved with one of my state's baseball teams. I NEVER voted for either "man" regardless.
President Obama, however; I voted for 5 times last year (legally)!
Once during the Democratic Primary, once during the Precinct caucus, once during the Williamson Co Convention, once during the State Convention, and finally on Election Day.
I appreciate that foreigners like our President, but it means less to me than being able to respect the office and the person who holds it once again...no offense.
Regardless, I will follow your posts. It's nice to meet a mind who understands the basics of decency...continental and historical differences be d*mn*d.
